Serious Post...Seriously...

Does anyone out there have experience with RAD? (Reactive Attachment Disorder) I have read about 5 books, been to every web site, so I want to know if anyone has close experience with this little problem of mine! Please e-mail me...before I have to start taking drugs, 'cause they are not working on McFly!

Tell Lisa I sent you. Her adoptive daughter has severe RAD, and she has some AMAZING techniques to use.

Oh, and good luck! I work with kids in foster care and adoptive placements, and it can really wear on parents.

Are you doing the attachment/parent therapy? Is that the therapy you have talked about?

I have 2 little chicklets with RAD. I would highly recommend:

http://www.attach.org/

and

http://www.radzebra.org/

Join the appropriate yahoo group under the rad zebra website. Just being able to talk/identify with other parents of RAD children is a blessing.

RAD is a diagnosis (See the DSM-IV) usually caused by chronic early maltreatment. You may want to look at my website for further details and ideas. There is effective treatment. Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy is one evidence-based, effective, and empirically validated treatment for this disorder.
Feel free to e-mail me or post on my blog if I can be of any further help.

I have two kids with RAD (one is healing). Five kids altogether.

Lisa will be your new best friend! :)

I write about our wonderfully crazy RADtastic life on my blog, as well.

Dive in. We're all here for you!

A really helpful book is the Parent Manuel, published by ATTACh you can get a copy at www.attach.org

Another great book for parents is Nurturing Attachments by Kim Golding.

I am new to the RAD world myself but want to offer moral support! Christine and Lisa have been such amazing supporters for me. You are not alone!

I have taught several students with RAD. Patience is key, as is consistency. It's a hard road you're on but worth it in the long run : ) There are great sites out there and some wonderful books, both venues you should explore, but ultimately each situation is different. Good luck : )
